Sesame plant is a tall annual herb which grows extensively in Asia, particularly in Burma, China, and India. It is a common ingredient in various cuisines, used whole in cooking for its rich, nutty flavour as well as added to breads, bagels and the tops of hamburger buns. In some cuisines it is also used in sweet dishes and cakes.
The seeds are especially rich in monounsaturated fatty acid, oleic acid, (up to 50% of the total fatty acids). Oleic acid helps lower LDL or “bad cholesterol” and increases HDL or “good cholesterol” in the blood, therefore is seen as positive for heart health. Sesame naturally contains quality vitamins, and minerals.
Adams Australia imports high quality, high purity de-hulled white sesame seeds from India.
